AVEDA stress-fix composition oil

AVEDA stress-fix composition oil on Belle Belle Beauty

I regularly go to an AVEDA salon for cut and color but I tend to skip the products after my service. I am usually testing something else or in a hurry to get somewhere. On my most recent visit, I couldn’t help but be distracted about the new composition oils. I am a huge fan of body and essential oils, and these seemed like the best marriage of both. I snagged both this one and a cooling version.

The AVEDA stress-fix composition oil is a nourishing and moisturizing blend of sunflower and jojoba seed oils that can be used on skin and hair. But the real treat is the stress-relieving scent. The lavender, lavandin and clary sage is soft and soothing. The mixture manages to silence my still wandering mind at bed time. And puts me in the right space to zen out in bed. I put a couple drops on my hand and spread over my neck, chest and arms.

Also a note, if you are in Tulsa, Nic at Ihloff salon at Utica Square is incredibly talented! I’ve been seeing her for years.

Mother’s Day Beauty Gifts on FOX23’s Great Day Green Country

Mother's Day Beauty Gifts on Belle Belle Beauty

Well, I know many of you are beauty junkies but do you have a Mother who shares your passion? I’ll be on FOX23’s Great Day Green Country again this morning chatting all about Mother’s Day Beauty Gift ideas that will thrill the one who fostered your very own love of makeup and skincare:

First up is the new fragrance from Sofia Vergara, Sofia. This is especially perfect if your mother is also a celebrity fan. Sofia channeled her home country’s (Columbia) native gem, the emerald, in designing the bottle for an elegant and angular vessel. The juicy scent is wearable with notes of blackberry, Colombian rose, orchid, earthy woods and vanilla.

I know it sounds trivial, but my personal belief is a luxe lip balm is something you can savor and enjoy multiple times a day. One of my favorites, By Terry Baume de Rose, is celebrating its 10 year anniversary. To celebrate, Terry de Gunzburg has designed a new limited-edition jar of the classic Baume de Rose included in a set along with the gloss form. Usually not a rose scent fan, I actually love this creamy but not sticky formula. I keep it by my bed and use it on my cuticles as well!

You probably have been under a rock if you haven’t heard of Urban Decay NAKED eyeshadow palettes. The third edition, Urban Decay NAKED 3 Eyeshadow Palette, hit shelves a couple months ago but still thrills. I finally took the plunge and picked this up at Sephora’s Friends and Family. And I am smitten. These nudes can accomplish virtually any look. The handy packaging which includes a dual sided brush is perfect for the mother on-the-go.

Okay, I know it sounds a little weird to give your mother a foundation. But this breakthrough formula is so exciting that any beauty junkie would love to have it on their vanity. bareMinerals Bareskin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation is both a tone-correcting liquid mineral foundation and a skincare serum in one. The ultra-thin texture actually has fabulous coverage. Splurge on accompanying Bareskin Perfecting Face Brush because it is shaped with a special well where you can drop the foundation and then buff into skin. I literally need one drop for a full face of light coverage – two drops for more medium to full coverage. Lilac plant stem cells work over time for a brighter, youthful appearance. Fragrance, water, silicone and oil-free.

Now for the mother who needs a little relaxation. Aveda’s newest collection might just be one of my favorites. The Aveda stress-fix formula contains lavender, organic clary sage and lavindin (a hybrid of true and spike lavender). The effect isn’t cloying or overwhelming but rather balanced and soothing. My favorite is the body cream which moisturizes with sustainably harvested sea algae, doesn’t leave skin greasy and honestly alleviates any feelings of stress.

For the mother who loves unique and elegant at the same time, Mai Couture has packaged makeup in paper form that is so exotically stunning. I honestly love all their products, but the Femme Forever Gift Set is a great way to discover these specialized products. The bronzing paper offers a mattifying effect along with a glow. For the blushing papers, just rub the sheet on apples of cheeks. The blotting paper delivers vitamin C and E while eliminating excess oil. And gloss gives lipstick a boost in color and hydration. Or pass along to her the Mai Couture Glow-Geous Trio with the 2-1 Bronzer/Blotting papers, Highlighter and Blush – all you could ever need!

stay tuned for the segment – i will post as soon as it is available online or tune in here locally at 10AM!

Aveda Pure Abundance Style Prep at Richard Chai Love NYFW Spring 2013

I have a slight infatuation with the perfect ponytail. The object of my affection is the slicked ponies seen at Richard Chai Love Spring 2013 runway show last month. I am always trying to achieve a sleek, parted pony that looks a little playful and a lot polished.

Usually, my hair frizzes and I relent into a top knot. But after discovering Aveda Pure Abundance Style Prep, my pony has hope. It gave my fine hair just enough volume and grit to achieve style. And it stayed put all day long. It also works as a refresher on day old hair. In true Aveda fashion, it smells fabulous.

The sporty collection was a great match for the athletic hair style. But Kevin Ryan, Aveda Stylist, adds that Richard “plays with proportion – nothing is exactly as you’d have imagined it. We’re slicking the hair back into a low ponytail with asymmetrical partings on top of the head. At first glance it looks like a regular pony, but look again and you notice something’s a little off.” And I am always game for an artistic interpretation of a classic.

Here’s a how-to from Kevin that helped me tremendously.

  1. Prep damp hair from roots to ends with Aveda Pure Abundance Style Prep; blowdry straight with a Mason Pearson brush.
  2. Flat iron hair, working from nape to crown.
  3. Create a square section of the head by parting hair along the parietal ridge. Secure on top of head with an elastic. (I just do a deep side part instead)
  4. Smooth out bottom section with a fine-toothed comb and mist with Aveda Air Control Hair Spray to control flyaways.
  5. Secure bottom section into a low pony at the base of the head; flat iron loose ends to completely smooth out the pony. Hold in place with Air Control Hair Spray.
  6. Release the top section of hair and flat iron to remove any kinks. Brush toward the right ear, making a clean parting on the left.
  7. Emulsify a dime-sized dollop of Flax Seed Aloe Gel and smooth it over the top of the hair for shine and hold.
  8. Starting at the point where the left parting meets the forehead, make another part diagonal across the head, creating two asymmetrical sections on top of the head.
  9. Pull each section back and secure into the pony at the nape, maintaing clearly defined partings.
  10. Flatten flyaways with a fine- toothed comb or soft brush and Air Control Hair Spray.
  11. Finish with a generous coating of Brilliant Spray-On Shine for a gloss.

Aveda invati Collection for Hair Loss and Scalp Health

While it isn’t the sexiest beauty topic, thinning hair and unhealthy scalp are a reality for many of us. I admit, I am seeing the effects of years of buns and pony tails. The hair around my face is thiner and sparser. I still get compliments on my thick, long hair but it is something I notice and I will do what I can to keep my hair heathy for as long as possible. Another not so lovely reality for me is psoriasis. I have found that lowering stress, sun exposure and injected steriods do help. But also using the right shampoo can minimize the unsavory side effects (aghem… flakes).

Aveda Invati Collection hits the sweet spot for me. It addresses:

  • Thinning
  • Loss of volume
  • Loss of density
  • Tighter or drier scalp

The primary ingredient is densiplex, containing turmeric and ginseng to help rehabiliate and energize the scalp. Tumeric is a traditional ingredient used for aging hair and scalp health and I have found that pill form of the herb improves psoriasis. Essential oils such as lavender, rosemary, ylang ylang, myrtle and ambrette give the collection the classic Aveda scent, but it isn’t too overpowering. My hair smells like it has just visited an authentic Ayurvedic spa in a subtle way.

The shampoo is actually exfoliates using wintergreen-derived salicylic acid to unclog pores. This process removes the build-up of sebum and product residue that can clog pores and affect healthy hair. Millet seed and milk thistle help restore balance to dry scalps.

The conditioner strengthens and fortifies using arginine derived from sugar beets and soy protein. Guar, palm and rapeseed-derived ingredients help thicken while organic kukui nut oil helps add natural shine.
