Jouer Gems

Jouer Gems // Belle Belle Beauty

My love affair with Jouer continues. Their fall launch was catchy with an emphasis on “finding your red” and creamy, luxurious lipsticks reviewed here. Two more products from the collection also won me over. Today, I am sharing these precious beauties with you:

A new shade of Jouer’s Lip Gloss, Monaco, is a brilliant but sheer coral red. The juicy pop of color is perfect for those who don’t want the commitment of a lipstick. There is no scent to the formula and it is highly moisturizing. There isn’t a crazy long wear time, but I don’t really expect it with lip gloss. And this vessel is so cute, I don’t mind whipping it out every now and then.

Also part of the fall collection, this set of liquid shimmer eye liners are surprisingly wearable. Panther is a rich onyx and Leopard is a bronzed chocolate. But I actually surprised myself loving Lynx, a golden olive green. This smooth formula is a breeze to apply with the precise and dainty brush. The pigment is long-wearing but doesn’t dry so quickly you can fix mistakes. I like layering them over black liner for a little pop.

Soft Pink Lips

Soft Pink Lips // Belle Belle Beauty

Sure, we are in the throws of autumn’s dark and vampy lips. And don’t get me wrong, I am really starting to love wearing a bold shade. But sometimes you just want a soft, feminine and easy-to-wear pink. Rounding out my six favorite pinky neutrals (in the above photo, starting top left going clockwise and top to bottom in the swatches below):

Jouer lipstick in Sophia is a shade launched for fall. I fell hard for this formula at New York Fashion Week when I stopped by Birchbox’s pop up shop for a little mini-makeover. While I wore the shade Grace that day, I knew Sophia was going to be the one I reached for over and over again. Actually part of their new “Find Your Perfect Red” collection, this creamy rose is their pick for warmer complexions. The formula has loads of hydration and a buttery finish that makes it easy to wear.

MAC Mineralize collection finally delivered a foundation that played well with my drier skin. And it also offered creamy and rich lipsticks that hydrate my ultra-dry lips. I picked up Grande Dame, a slightly darker rose with just a hint of shimmer and frost. The color is relatively opaque with great lasting wear.

NARS Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Viva is my pick if shine is your goal. I love the tiny applicator brush which allows for maximum precision. While Larger Than Life is a true lip gloss, you can expect a ton of pigment. And natural voluminizers work to plump lips.

Flower Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color in So Gladiola is rose with a hint of orange and a matte finish. The pigment in these lipsticks are luxury at a drugstore price point. Despite the finish, the formula contains an emollient so my lips stay hydrated and the color stays smooth.

Probably one of my all time favorite gloss formulas, bareMinerals marvelous MOXIE in Party Starter has a pop of coral. But because it is a gloss, the effect on me ends up being fairly rosy. Shea and avocado nourish lips and a minty effect gives a bit of a tingle.

NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Isola Bella is ultimately so wearable. The shade is a rosy nude with a creamy, shiny finish. The pencil packaging allows for precise application, important with the pigment-packed formula. Expect lots of wear time from this twist on a lipstick.

Summer Favorites From Jouer Cosmetics

Summer Favorites From Jouer Cosmetics // Belle Belle Beauty

Oh how I’ve had a love affair with Jouer. Way back in the early days of the blog – almost two and a half years ago – I sung the praises of Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint thanks to an intro by Birchbox. I was hooked and quickly added The Weekender Collection and the Mini Tinted Lip Enhancers Kit to my collection. I’m so glad to have this classic and modern cosmetics line back on the blog today with some of my favorites from their summer collection.

First up, Jouer Mattifying Powder Bronzer, is the perfect matte bronze for contouring. The formula leaves a smooth and blended matte finish while never looking cakey or dry. The formula contains Gingko Biloba Leaf Extract and Aloe Vera to help improve skin’s texture while you wear it.

My summer lip of choice these days is a lipstick/balm blend: Jouer Lip Sheers. I love that the formula contains SPF 15 to keep me protected. And this balm has an unusually high level of hydration. My lips get just the touch of color I crave in the summer, not to mention are adequately moisturized without looking flaky. My favorite shades are Antigua (Sheer Honey Peach with very little rosiness) and Maui (a pinkier nude).

Jouer Mini Tinted Lip Enhancers Kit

If you are anything like me, I have an assortment of lip treatments and glosses scattered throughout my life: on my desk, in my car, in ALL of my purses, etc.  So, when I see a kit of three that can provide lip plumping, moisture and a dose of color, I am intrigued.  These lip enhancers contain what Jouer calls “Maxi-Lip” that has been clinically proven to minimize fine lines and pump up your lips naturally.  Lip enhancers also contain Vitamin E, Shea Butter, and Jojoba Oil to moisturize and heal lips.  Unlike other lip enhancers, this formula does not sting or tickle (thank goodness – that’s just creepy!).  Concerning the color, these shades are relatively subtle, so they should really work on a range of coloring.  And I am always a sucker for the wine-related naming scheme:

  • Champagne is a lovely barely-there neutral
  • Bellini is a juicy coral
  • Shiraz is a sheer berry

This trio is available through www.birchbox.com.  I was unable to find them on the Jouer website, but hope they will be selling them there too eventually.

Jouer The Weekender Collection

This is almost too good to be true.  And in perfect time for packing for those summer getaways.  This palette has the absolute best in neutral shades that can be layered for varying looks.  I really can’t imagine too many skin tones this wouldn’t work for.  If you have dark skin, the mattifying powder could be too light, but I found it to be very translucent.  All of the products, I think, would look fabulous from pale to very dark. The palette contains:

  • Powder Eyeshadow Trio – satin matte charcoal, satin matte taupe, and matte vanilla cream
  • Face Duo – Translucent Mattifying Powder and Mattifying Powder Bronzer in matte honey
  • Tint & Highlighter Duo – Champagne Highlighter in shimmering pink and Cinnamon Tint in creamy deep rose
  • Ginger Lip Gloss – shimmering copper (very sheer and light)

The individual pieces slide apart so if you only want to carry bring a few or throw one into a clutch, easy! I use my fingers for most of these items, but theoretically you would need a powder, bronzer , eyeshadow and liner brushes.  It can be difficult to get only the bronzer or powder on the brush so I ended up mixing them and really liked the effect.  It was much easier for me to use my fingers on the eye palette then blend with a brush once it was applied.  Order from Birchbox. Right now they have free shipping on this item! ($58)

Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint

Not surprisingly, I was excited to get my December shipment from BirchBox (www.birchbox.com), my new favorite beauty resource.  But I couldn’t imagine that I would find the solution to a long search for a lighter or tinted moisturizer.  I don’t like the way Laura Mercier smells so there went the usual favorite everyone was recommending to me. I am smitten with Jouer’s Moisture Tint.  It evens skin, comes out looking matte with just a bit of glimmer.  And don’t worry folks, it looks great for day despite the bit of sparkle.  On their website, Christina recommends layering for more intense coverage for those of you looking for that.  I love it just the way it is with a light application all over the face.  Hip Hip Hooray for BirchBox and Jouer!
