em michelle phan Holiday Collection on Belle Belle Beauty

There is something thrilling about seeing my fellow beauty bloggers develop their very own line up makeup. I cannot wait to see IIID foundation from the beautiful Maskcara! In the meantime, I’ve been playing around with the latest from Michelle Phan’s em michelle phan Holiday Collection. I love the concept of her “super-palettes” and couldn’t wait to experience them myself!

First, a bit of a background on em michelle phan. She is a beauty blogger super star with social media stats that will make your head spin. Her video how-tos are mesmerizing (feast your eyes on this How To Look Like Miranda Kerr video with over 2.5 million views). Her love of makeup stems from its ability to give confidence to women. She studied art, portrait painting in particular, to learn how light and color translates on the face.

Each product in the em michelle phan reflects a life moment. While there are 250 products, the most iconic has to be the life palette – an all encompassing “super-palette”. The holiday collection features two mini version of these: winter life: ice bunny and holiday life: new year’s countdown. Each one includes 6 eyeshadows, 1 blush, and 2 lip colors in a sturdy compact with a magnetic closer. The colors are refillable.

First up, Holiday life has the deeper shades. Overall, the shimmer shades, both lip and eye, are the standouts. I love Sequin Dress (top left) as a highlight. Stroke of plum (second from top right) is a pretty, wearable lipgloss that is very sheer. The matte eye shadows aren’t as creamy as I’d like, but I appreciate the inclusion of a navy. And the blush, Countdown, takes a little blending but is captivating deep plum.

Winter life is my favorite of the two. The palette conjures thoughts of icy winter shades. The lip glosses, Parisian Nude and Dressed Up, are hydrating, sheer and nourishing. Snuggle Up Peach, the blush, is a sheer and cool pink. All the eyeshadows are creamy and well pigmented. There are four beautiful shimmer shades including an icy blue that opens up eyes like a champ. The matte shade, Black Pumps, is rich and opaque.

Both palettes have no scent. The packaging seems luxe although the included brush, really only suited to the eye shadows, seems a bit of an afterthought. Winter Life would especially make a great gift for diehard Michelle Phan fans on your holiday shopping list.

em michelle phan is sold at emcosmetics.com where you can also find a step-by-step tutorial for the mini life palettes.
