Jet Set Favorites from around the Globe on FOX23’s Tulsa Live

Summer is the time for those dream trips, often abroad. Even if we don’t have one planned, we might be daydreaming about being on a beach in Greece or strolling the Parisian avenues. Without leaving our vanities, we can bring the exotic into our lives via beauty. So many of the international beauty staples have withstood the test of time, making them a must-have. This morning on Tulsa Live (formally Great Day Green Country), I shared some of my favorites to transport me to travel hotspots:

I can’t help but start off with my favorite destination, France. And what is more French than Caudalie, a skin care line built upon the benefits of Grape-seed Polyphenols, the most powerful anti-oxidants in the plant world. Caudalie Polyphenol c15 Overnight Detox Oil is one of the newest from the brand and is also made in France. The team has coupled the anti-oxidants with stabilized Vitamin C to block free-radicals. Another dream location I hope to visit one day is the Dead Sea, a natural phenomenon I have always been fascinated with. Asia is still on my bucket list (if you don’t count my couple days in the part of Turkey that lies on the continent). My cousin has a passion for Japan and I think it has rubbed off on me. After all, Japan lays claim one of the great skin care cultures. One reason could be the availability of Wakame, a seaweed that grows along the coast of Japan and is often said to be the reason why Japanese women have youthful skin even into old age. H2O Plus Face Oasis CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 PA +++ contains a wakame compound that offers tons of anti-aging properties including a natural sunscreen and protection against the loss of Hyaluronic Acid. While CC creams generally have heavier coverage in my experience, this version is sheer to medium coverage and can brighten skin without being heavy. Bonus points for the inclusion of chemical free sunscreen ($35). Note: this line flies under the radar but is fabulous for relatively affordable skin care.

And we couldn’t round up this virtual world tour without a couple of stops in Africa. It seems that African ingredients are having somewhat of a moment in the beauty industry. First up is the super-popular Argan Oil from the Argan Tree of Morocco. I know we all have seen it on shelves, but what exactly is Argan Oil? The Berber people of Morocco discovered the culinary, cosmetics and medicinal benefits of Argan Oil. Unroasted Argan Oil is traditionally used as a treatment for skin diseases. In cosmetics, Argan Oil is advocated as moisturizing oil, working against flaky skin as well as nourishing and fortifying the hair. L’Oreal harnessed Argan’s nourishing benefits to heal dull, dry and damaged hair with Oleo Therapy. The Oleo Therapy collection is sulfate-free and contain six flower oils to provide nutrition and hydration to strands ($6.99 – 12.99).

Lastly, let’s head South to South Africa for another oil that has been part of beauty rituals for centuries. Marula fruit fates back as far as 10,000 BC. No wonder since its miracle oil can protect skin in severe climates. Marula Oil is packed with antioxidants and omega-9 fatty acids which can fight free radicals, prevent water loss and improve elasticity. Erno Laszlo Phormula 3-9 Cream is a nutritional supplement that packs a hydration punch and works as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Expect renewed skin and a more youthful appearance. I love this cream after a ski day or a pool afternoon. It even calms my red flush after a run and can be used on the face and body ($265).

Beat The Heat on FOX23’s Tulsa Live

How to beat the heat while keeping our polished but still natural looks in place? I’ll be on FOX23’s Tulsa Live (formerly Great Day Green Country) this morning chatting all about how to keep makeup in place now that we are in the full swing of sweltering summer heat.

I love that its ability to blur lines, pores and texture makes foundation unnecessary – great to skip a layer in the sticky heat.

Mai Couture Papier Blush, Bronzer and Highlighter papers are perfect on the go touch-ups while absorbing excess oil and adding a needed summer glow. They are also perfect for holiday travel allowing you to skip liquids and extra brushes.

For the ultimate in staying power, use Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray and makeup will not budge. June Is Acne Awareness Month on FOX23’s Great Day Green Country

Bioré has long been a blemish fighting favorite brand. The newest trio has been a surprisingly awesome addition to my skin care routine. While I don’t have a ton of acne, these products have helped clear up my clogged pores on my nose that have plagued me since this spring. Bioré Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser is a refreshing and cooling salicylic acid acne treatment that clears skin of dirt and oil. Summer Sunscreens on FOX23’s Great Day Green Country

It is officially that time of year again. I haven’t quite ventured out to the pool, but I know this Memorial Day Weekend will require a couple hours lounging in the sun and a splash around. There is nothing more daunting than exposing pale winter skin to intense summer sun for the first time each year. Look no further for some new (and old) favorites to protect skin. I’ll be featuring these this AM on Great Day Green Country:

Hawaiian Tropic has that iconic old-school scent that can transport us to childhood days at the beach. Their new improved formulas elevate these old favorites. Dry Oil Clear Spray Sunscreen contains nourishing antioxidants and remains water resistant for a full 80 minutes. Silk Hydration for the Face works beautifully under makeup. And the Sheer Touch Lotion Sunscreen goes on without feeling greasy and adding just a hint of radiance.

Using mineral sunscreens (which usually play better with my sensitive skin), it provides serious protection against UVA and UVB rays. The entire L’Oreal Sublime Sun line immediately transports me to southern France. This sun care can actually improve the look of skin, feels lightweight and has a great scent. I turn to L’Oreal Paris Sublime Sheer Protect Sunscreen Oil Spraywhenever my skin is feeling a little dry. The oil surprisingly gives a whopping SPF 50 and nourishes skin without being greasy.

By now, I am sure we all have an SPF routine and know the importance of protecting skin. But mistakes do happen. When you get a little overexposed, check out Mario Badescu After Sun Cooling Gel that contains aloe and cools distressed skin. Keep it in the fridge for an extra cooling effect. Nourishing sunburned skin can help with the healing process and may mitigate a little long term damage.

Note: With spray sunscreens, make sure to apply liberally all over the body. The spray dispensers make it easy to underestimate how much protection you are getting.

Making Up Easy on FOX23’s Great Day Green Country

With all the innovation happening in the beauty world, we have no excuse to bemoan a laborious makeup routine. Today’s products make getting beautiful easy (and quick). Anyone else addicted to lip balm? I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I reach for my pot of Nivea Lip Butter that resides on my desk. Almost more preferable than regular self-tanning, you can build a glow until desired depth. And this latest crop of self-tanners doesn’t have that dreaded smell!

Contouring is all the craze and I admit to loving the chiseled look that it gives. But let’s be honest… sometimes you just don’t have time to go through all those steps. Channel your inner Goldie Hawn/Kate Hudson and go for an all over glow. Just swirl a large blush in a hybrid powder like Hard Candy Contouring Face Trio in 3rd Wheel or bareMinerals READY Face & Body Luminizer and use all over the face.

Last but certainly not least, this luxurious multi-tasker is blowing away the beauty world. YSL’s baby doll Kiss & Blush is perfect for on the go (or when you just don’t want to dig through for two products). The unique doe foot applicator with a roller ball coats lips with a matte pop of color. I use my finger to apply on my cheeks to waken the complexion.

I totally fangirl-ed when I was on air right after Hanson. I didn’t listen to them growing up (I’m too old) but they were so charming and cute!

Prom Prep On FOX23’s Great Day Green Country

After a little break last week, I’m back on Great Day Green Country this morning and it is all about prom season. I attended prom twice and loved the pomp and circumstance of prepping as much as the actual event. My fashion was always just a little bit edgy, but like these days, makeup was neutral and easy. My picks for favorite prom prep reflects that same aesthetic.

I’ve filed bliss fatgirlslim arm candy under “Why didn’t I think of that?”. I’ve been using this caffeine powered gel to tighten and firm my arms in anticipation of this evenings fundraising event (I am finally getting to wear my new favorite dress). Much like the Bliss Fatgirl Six Pack, the applicator massages. Aside from the tightening effect, you’ll find your skin is less red and soother – huge when you suffer from keratosis polaris like I do.

Talk about something perfect to throw in your clutch. The FLOWER Eye to Eye Double Take Eye Marker & Crème Eyeshadow has one end with an inky marker, perfect for lining eyes. The marker shades are specifically paired to the accompanying shadow on the other end but all are fairly close to black. The cream shadow has excellent staying power and blends well. Poolside Kiss offers a fun twist on a green but I am equally smitten by Lovely Lilac and Steel a Kiss. Available at Walmart.

Another FLOWER Beauty favorite is the Glisten Up! Highlighter Chubby – perfectly suited for a teenager, this sheer illuminating stick can be used on cheeks and eyes. The sheen gives the perfect natural glow. At under $10, you’ll want all three shades: Pearl Shimmer, Gold Coaster, Honey Bronze. Also available at Walmart.

I might be the last person on earth to have not tried Proactiv. Not only am I ashamed as a beauty blogger, but the founding physicians come from my alma mater, Stanford University. I have heard over and over again how the entire line of treatments have been a godsend to those who suffer from acne. My skin lately has been acting like an angst-y teenager, so I was thrilled to have Proactiv+ Emergency Blemish Relief land on my desk. The formula contains prescription-quality benzoyl peroxide to kill bacteria but also soothe and calm skin. Even my sensitive skin doesn’t get angry or red using this on those pesky pimples.
